According to local legend, the name Leelanau is an Ojibwe-inspired word meaning “land of delight.”
With 151 miles of shoreline, Leelanau is home to beautiful freshwater beaches, sparkling inland lakes, crystal clear rivers, and streams, orchards, and farmland, vineyards, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, dense northern forests and so much more!
A longstanding destination for artists seeking inspiration, our community is brimming with opportunities to engage in an art class, attend a concert, or shop at local galleries. Chefs and winemakers attracted to our fertile soils offer farm-to-table menus and award-winning wines throughout our winding county.
The Narrows Yacht Club is fortunate to be located in the heart of Lake Leelanau on the Lake Leelanau Narrows - a protected waterway that connects North Lake Leelanau and South Lake Leelanau. Our cottages overlook the water and a large grassy lawn complete with a stone fire pit, lounge chairs, picnic tables, and plenty of space for games. Hit the water for the day with one of our luxurious pontoons, fishing boats, canoe, kayaks, or SUP’s. The town of Lake Leelanau is minutes away by foot and home to charming eateries, wineries and a distillery, antique shops, and a local grocery store.
If in time local legend proves to be a farce, we’ll forever consider Leelanau the land of delight.
